The ongoing project "Where Comes Mulan" centres around the connection between the fictional character Mulan and my hometown of Mulan town, Huangpi. It explores the intricate relationship between the tourism industry, mythology, and ideology. It is gonna be the starting point of my journey diving into the complexities of identity, gender, and culture in China.

Inspired by Mulan's empowering story, this project seeks to unravel the complexities and nuances of her character and her impact on society. As an artist born in Wuhan and raised in different places, I am deeply passionate about exploring the multifaceted nature of identity and gender in our rapidly changing world. Through a series of mixed-media installations, including photographs, videos, and community outreach programs, I will create an immersive and site-specific experience that invites visitors to reflect on the diverse perspectives and contradictions surrounding these issues.
I am thrilled to share that I have been granted an artist residency at K11 Artist Village in Wuhan, the city where Mulan Township locates. I will explore the ways in which the surrounding towns have been shaped by the mythology of Mulan. Using a mix of documentary and fantasy, allow me to connect with the cultural roots of this iconic figure in new and profound ways. More importantly, I will dive into her story of bravery, determination, and self-discovery has become a symbol of empowerment for many, especially for those who identify as female or gender non-conforming.
